Therefore this article is two fold, firstly for the developers so they may implement good design without functionality being compromised by pop up blocker protocol or by being penalised by search engines as they try and route out the unsolicited content that pop ups present.
Then secondly aimed at the User on how to decide on a popup blocker that targets unsolicited advertising without spoiling the internet experience.
The reason I have compiled this into one article is because I feel its important for both the user and the developer to have insight and to be able to discuss the issues involed with each other as they both share a common goal. More....
What I am suggesting is 4 alternative techniques for developers to use to retain the functionality you would normally associate with pop ups.
1: The first and most surprising one is that many developers still use "on open pop ups" as an alternative to redirection this is probably limited to dated sites or novice developers. Using redirection is a simple code to implement and also a useful tool for passing on page rank and traffic from outdated pages that still receive high volumes of traffic.
2: Instead of using on event pop up frames, notes, diagrams or forms use the hover over function the effect is the same and its more user friendly.
3: To squeeze in additional text. Many users prefer a summery instead of information that is drawn out while others are in fact looking for more detail. Using the expand and hide function is more practical and user friendly method of achieving this as opposed to a opening a new window (popup).
4: Finally Use the fade out option as opposed to the "on exit popup" to provide a leaver notification i.e. "Are you sure you want to leave what about this" or "before you go what did you think of our site" or "Please log out" on so on.

1: Try before you buy most providers will offer a try before you buy option then you can make sure it complies with the remaining considerations .
2: Many of the popup virus protection company's are themselves "spreading the disease to sell the cure" make sure you can identify the software as regulated from a trusted source. (Recommended Popup,firewall and virus software resources.)
3: Make sure the software is compatible with your operating and browsing options many software applications may slow down your operating system and conflict with specific web browsers.
4.Try using one that doesn't require needless updates the latest web technology make this practice almost redundant.
5. This can be an unnecessary cost there are free versions out there that are just as competent. If you are solely responsible for the use of your computer, practice safe surfing and keep regular backups of your key data then why pay a premium.
This all said malicious program still manage to get onto your computer through unsolicited popups. Now you can help by making the websites that allow this form of advertising take responsibility. To Pop or not to Pop: I'm sorry you came here to get information and all you get is this lecture. We really need to practice what we preach with our customer service. No buddy, please dont, popups are so pre this decade. Do not use pop ups to advertise your site and do not use pop ups in an attempt to make a profit on your site. Why??? if you don't know. Its a dying industry ok so they may be able to remedy the pop up blocker with at first popups , popexits, popunder 's, popoff's (sorry just made it up although they probably exist) and now what's it? generated pop ups using Adobe Flash, since pop-up blockers only blocked the JavaScript method. But they are fighting a loosing battle once ethical company's have now turned to cheating the advertisers to try full the gap in their profits all that's left going strong is gamming, porn and entertainment. But that wont last long when the publishers traffic dries up for using what's proving extremely unpopular with both users( just because) and search engines( as they are proving to be a security, virus threat and source of uncensored content). The other thing is Why bother even if they stay in business long enough to pay you the CPM rates they offer are quite low in comparison to what you can earn using conventional methods in fact more than half and that's being pessimistic with the conventional methods. This is why we no longer list them and because we hate them we really do. So here if you want a Good list of conventional sources of publishers Income .
